How humiliating is that girls?very I should assume ,but to be honest I don't know why..it's probably the opposite of zlam..(terminology wise)but every time I hear the word I feel offended..mostly when it's used by my husband, who doesn't use it often, but somehow he sort of feels compelled to when he's driving and annoyed by the stupidity of the other driver..-whom he can't see by the way-and he automatically starts cursing the day I7na el niswan learned to drive..he goes..yalla habibti..yalla ya madam..yalla ya okhti ..yalla ya sitti ..yalla ya mo7tarameh..(well at least he doesn't go nasty with his words)only to find out that the car in front of us is either driven by an old old man or a really young one who is flirting with the girl in the other seat and is not really bothered with what the rest of the world think of his driving. So to go back to the main topic what does niswan mean and why does it feel so humiliating?Niswan from the formal arabic word Nisa" which means women..no implications for the word nisa" what so ever..you are reading an arabic article and you read nisa" and nothing negative comes to mind..but you hear it in slang and you immediately get offended(or is it only me?)How come I feel like a second class human being when I am labeled so?opinions welcome!

I tease my wife sometimes and call her "ya 7urmah" since we have gotten Arabic satellite. She gets offended and lets me know not to call her than. I can see how that can be offensive. I think this word is chauvinistic. I also catch myslef assuming the bad driver in front of me is a woman, but I have to say that I am right 80% of the time and it is a woman driver! I think the tone is which the work niswan is said offends you. The meaning of a word is in it's tone. Like, "thanks a lot!" means more, "I hate you for doing that".
Have a nice day.
