Reflections
AT ebb time I wrote a few lines upon the shore..and gave them all my heart and all my soul..at tide time I returned to read what I had inscribed and found my ignorance upon the shore.."jubran khalil"

:: wrong diagnosis..for fifteen years!!

I like listening to radio fann in the morning ..mohammad al wakeel plays the allo allo..el bath el mobasher?role very nicely, and the things that people complain about are sometimes quite amusing..yesterday a man called to ask the government to reconsisder giving a raise to nurses. He was so much against it for the simple fact that the nurses who helped in his wife’s delivery wore too much make up as if they were ray7at 3ala 7aflet 3oros!!!Also the taxi driver who complains why he got a ticket for smoking behind the wheel when he smokes two packs a day and can’t stop every time he wants to take a puff!!But what I heard today really saddened me.This man from Aqaba has been bringing his daughter for treatment in Jordan University Hospital from a case called cystic fibrosis. To be honest I don’t know what this is nor how serious it is..but regardless…the girl was taken to Italy for check ups by a fa3el khair only to discover that she has been wrongly diagnosed and has been treated for 15 years with the wrong medications..How furious would that make you?I am very frustrated,I always thought that we have good hospitals and doctors ..we attract medical tourism from around tha arab world and we have some medical breakthroughs every now and then ..this should give us some credibility ..no?
It is a shock to me that for 15 years no one suspected that something is wrong in the picture..and sometimes I think we should be suing doctors and hospitals for such mistakes.

Poor girl!

I heard that call , today's morning , as i can remember that girl was treated for 15 years for some thyroid problem though she had Cystic Fibrosis " CF " and both of them are 2 separate entities with deferent manifestations and could be diagnosed easily with simple investigations , so no chance to mix between them and I don't think that Drs that included several generations during those 15 years were unable to have the right diagnosis after all that time ...... something weird about it
ya3ni if you go to any pediatric hospital u will see lots of kids having this condition .....
Cystic fibrosis, is a congenital metabolic disease characterized by improper exocrine secretion ...... so people complaining of this disease will have thick mucous secretions all over their body including their lungs , gastro-intestinal tract , genital ......
By the way I felt sorry for that guy , but i felt sorry for Mohd. al Wakeel and I couldn't help not to laugh , he asked the father what's yr problem and how can we help u , and he was telling him the story from the first day of her birth .......... :)

Cheerz !

Thanks Dar for the explanation..well I got most of it..u used big words so u know..but i thought he said she was treated for Cf and that wasn't her condition..anyways do u suppose he was lying?doesn't seem likely to me..though I wish he was so I can regain my faith in our hospitals, however i had a few incidents that annoyed me in the hospital giving birth..I might actually write about that later.thanks

well as i know , its not that hard to diagnose either conditions , but it seems that there was some real problem with his daughter unless he wasnt saying the truth

hi,,
it's really shocked me, it makes me think twice before going to doctor, what if he reported me to make an operation then realized it should be in somewhere else. Unbelievable !!!

Well I had an incident in jordan were I was diagnosed for appendicitis, went into surgery and found out there was nothing wrong with my appendix but was removed anyway...turned out I had a cyst on my ovary that bursts...misdiagnoisis do happen... but we shouldn't lose faith in the medical community...my advise is get more than 2 dr.'s opinon...

angel eyes ... sorry to hear your story, if they have done an ultrasound or a CT-scan of the abdomen they should've seen that cyst. I'm not sure about consulting more than one doctor at a time, it might help in the beginning but once someone has a chronic disease they'd better stick to one doctor. Confusion between doctors always exists and the patient is the most one to be hurt.

I didn't hear what the man was saying, but it's possible that he was misdiagnosed. They misdiagnose cancers all the time and mess up treatment giving wrong doses of chemotherapy, and guess.... in america that also happens. In 1999, 98 thousand americans died of medical mistakes. 98,000!!!
They diagnose cystic fibrosis by what they call a sweat chloride test, and it's an very easy test to do, they have to induce the body to sweat a lot, and if not a sufficient amount of sweat is collected wrong results might concluded.

Angeleyes..sorry to hear that and hope you're done with taht now..hareega..thanks for the explanation though it shocks me that in the states they could be still misdiagnozing caner sometimes..from my own xperience having to live with a loved ones lung cancer I thought american centers were the best in the world..I sincerely pray for every patients recovery..it's a vicious thing to go through.
