Reflections
AT ebb time I wrote a few lines upon the shore..and gave them all my heart and all my soul..at tide time I returned to read what I had inscribed and found my ignorance upon the shore.."jubran khalil"

:: I've been trying not to talk about this ...

I've been trying not to talk about this issue, because it really bothers me.Everything about it does, really. To start with,I don't know where I stand, ever since the problem started, this is what I've been thinking:

-Saw the cartoons and said:This is very direspectful.I wouldn't want that to happen to my prophet or religious symbol or anyone I respect.
-Heard about all the boycotts and saw all the apologies that followed and thought to myself:wow,we as arabs, and the rest of the muslim world have been able to do something about it!!We actually won.Peacefully! In spite of the exxaggerated reactions of some ,who went as far as bycotting everything european.
-Saw the burnings and the killings and the threats and the hails to terror ,to 9/11 and the holocaust and I was disgusted with our ignorance.
-But then,I saw new cartoons and new drawings ,even greeting cards that are nastier and dirtier than the ones before. Now we are targeted more than ever, even as a non-muslim arab I say we,because the insult affects us just as much.
-So why is this happening. What happened to forgiving and forgetting. What happened to the teachings of love that we we raised to believe in and what happened to our minds that we can't see clearly any more? The words of Ghandi have so much wisdom,it helps if we can reflect on them for a while:

Mohandas K. Gandhi:

Hatred ever kills, love never dies. Such is the vast difference between the two. What is obtained by love is retained for all time. What is obtained by hatred proves a burden in reality for it increases hatred.

Hi Salam...did you read those newer nastier cartoons weren't from the same source, but a set up from a Danish imam?

I'm sorry for the shame that is getting attached to the great Arabs by the actions of the least. I know what a great people you all are, and I'm doing my best to influence Western friends that way.

Salam, I found this from surfing, I'm not a regular reader of wwwgatewaypundit.blogspot, but that is where they are. But don't look at the cartoons they are too gross for anyone.

Thanks for missing me! Hubby and I have had a blogging debate, and I need to take it easy for awhile. :) But I will be doing the book club.
