Reflections
AT ebb time I wrote a few lines upon the shore..and gave them all my heart and all my soul..at tide time I returned to read what I had inscribed and found my ignorance upon the shore.."jubran khalil"

:: can you help me decide?

If you were living in a multi-level house and had an elevator inside, would you rather have it open right in the middle of the living room, with stairs going around it,or have it along with the stairs in a seperate entity next to the entrance?I don't know if these sketches make sense but they're just in their first phase.Hope they don;t seem like 5arabeesh jaj. Please advise.

I choose open stairs.

I would't want a visible elvator in my villa.
Specially if it was one of those pull-the-door (old) elevators.

Thanks,

yes ,me neither,I think the whole thing being there in the middle of the living room isn't that great but I want to get some feedback because the owner asked me to try out this option.

I liked the layout of the first option, but as you told me, the elevator looks too exposed to the family room, how about turn it’s opening to the TV side? The northern side?
The second option "functional wise" works better.

That didn't help did it ;)

I would definitely choose the second option. When the elevator opens into the family room, you loose so much wall space (you can't put furniture against the doors of the elevator.) Also, you probably want to have a hard surface in front of the elevator, not rugs, like I imagine you would want in the family room.
The weakness with the second option is that you see the elevator doors as soon as you walk in the front door of the villa. Perhaps you could take the second option, and move the stairs and elevator all the way to the left, so that the elevator is against the kitchen. You would still walk through the family room to get to the elevator, but it would be a better circulation path and give you more wall space in the family room than option A.

Yeah I agree with Rawan ,the second one functions more properly, especially it being more conveniet for all users, instead of going to the living room and then taking hte elevator,in addition it will make the living room like a foyer somehow, losing its function as a seperate identity to dwell alone.

So i'll go with the second option. But how about integrating the elevator with the stairs in the second option?

Creates a more wholesome foyer iI believe!

i think if you make it seperate it would be better for privacey reasons. i mean lets say you have people over in the living room and want to bring or take something from or up stairs and you dont ant your guests to see :P

Thanks everyone for your valuable input, though to be honest.i don't know how you were able to see,the sketches are so unclear. It seems mostly everyone agrees on the second, for more privacy.well what i did is I prepared both options and will show them to the client today.let's see how it goes.thanks again.

Ok,he likes the second one!yaaay!!now it needs a lot more fine tuning,as a lot of you have noticed, but at least I 'm on the right track! And Rebecca, yes I wanted to deal with that but I was more focused on the stairs positioning, but you do make sense.

I came in late for this! What a shame. In any case, I noticed many people would rather have the stairs and the elevator not in the living room but somewhere else. I seem to favour having them in the living room, especially if the elevator is all glass and such. That would be nice.

It is true Tololy, but you need space for that and this is a small villa, not very spacious, and is attached to 2 others. The living room would end up to be a passgae for all the other functions in the house,I think.

Hi Salam,
I'm glad to hear that the client chose option 2! Have fun with this project.

You know Rebecca,I am.I haven't had fun working in a long time but this one,the land is terrible and the owner is an investor so he wants to make as much money out of it as possible. He insisted on 3 small villas when I thought even two would be mediocre. And they are in Aabdoon so they will be sold really expensive, but the design is improving drastically day by day.He will live in the apartment in question and something nice has really come up from this tight piece of land.I am sure you are familiar with Jordan's architecture and some of its regulations, they limit you a bit ,but still I am happy about it.i will post newer sketches soon. Thanks again.
