So now,off to my first tale, which is not really a tale,it's rather a trick that my dad used to put me to sleep ,on the few nights that he wasn't working late,or when I was sick and sleeping in my parents bed:
-me:yes
-dad:if you say yes and if you say no,I will tell you the story of the oil jar,so shall I tell you the story of the oil jar?(in olti aah w in olti la2 ra7 a7keelek osset bree2 el zait,a7keelek osset bree2 el zait)?
-me:yes,I said yes.
-dad:if you say yes and if you say no I will tell you the story of the oil jar.So shall I tell you the story of the oil jar?
-me,trying to be smart:no
-dad:if you say yes and if......
and so on and so forth,I guess it used to bore me enough to go to sleep ,and that was the wisdom behind it!
Has anyone ever heard of this bed-time tale,or something even similar?Do you have a story to share? Please take the time to write it before it all gets lost with time. It's part of our culture!

Great idea, Salam! I'm really looking forward to this series!
Salam, if you get enough memories together, you should write a children's book!
So what's the deal... 3 nights in a row no sleep? I'll pray for you!
Hi Salam,
You got me thinking here. I did a quick search and came up with this link:

I've started to read some of these stories and they are great. I'd be interested to know if you heard the same stories growing up.
Never heard of this one, could be Syrian though. I do remember "7odroj bodroj naaga todroj", it was a song and if I remember correctly the hands were used for counting along with the song, I have a poor memory though :-)
Thanks Rebecca for the link ,I will check it out and let you know!
Anonymous,as a child I never heard this song ,it is very jordanina while I am of syrian origin, however I 've learned it recently from my husbnd's aunts they play it with the kids it goes something like:(7adarej badarej, khairan darej, galet korkom galet fish,i6la3 ya mafreya -l- wish)and yes they use the fingers and go over them and hide the one that goes out.But don't ask me what any of this means!
I am originally from the North of Jordan, this could be the Southern version of the song. Interesting change of lyrics though!
Kinzi,thanks..i haven't been feeling well, and not getting much better either!thanks for the prayers.
