Reflections
AT ebb time I wrote a few lines upon the shore..and gave them all my heart and all my soul..at tide time I returned to read what I had inscribed and found my ignorance upon the shore.."jubran khalil"

:: The Falafel Snob

He'd start his day at 9.00 a.m and won't sell you a single sandwich a minute before that.

He'd enjoy watching your eyes go through his repertoire of newspaper clippings about his famous falafel sandwiches, and you can feel him humbly reveling in your admiration.

He'd generously offer you a falafel to munch on while you wait for your sandwich, but would never sell you any,no matter how long you're going to rave about its freshness.

He'd squash your falafels in that yummy bread, drizzle it with his special sauce and toast it to the right crispiness like no one other place would.

He'd close down when he's done with that day's batch and would not make anymore,no matter how early in the day it is.

I'm not sure if it's just the amazing recipe that make these sandwiches so special, or the owner's snobbish attitude that give it this extra charisma, enigma rather.

That lust with which you leave, for that bare falafel ball that he'd give you for free but won't sell you!

That undeniable disappointment when you arrive half an hour too early, and can't afford the wait for that perfect sandwich.

That secret coveting you have towards the last ten sandwiches of the day that the previous customer proudly strode away with.

It's just all part of the magic.
All part of creating Abu Adeeb's Legendary Al Quds Falafel Sandwiches.

So, have you had one lately?
Go ahead and have one today, who knows how long his Eid vacation will last!

:: Over Lunch

Lunch At Mom's.

Raya:   What's for lunch?
Me:      Mlookhieh.*
Raya:   Yeeeeeeee, ma biddi!

Raya used to love mlookhieh, but hasn't been thrilled about lately, it's been confusing me for some time.She goes off to wash up and comes to the kitchen to find my mom had already fixed a plate for her.Her face lights up!!

Raya:   THAT'S the mlookhieh I like, mom don't be upset, but teta's mlookhieh is waaaaay better than yours!
Me:      I won't be upset baby, I was just telling teta the same thing a minute ago,I think so too!
Zaid:    This can't be! How can you love mama and not love her mlookhieh?
Raya:   So should I hate mama just becasue I hate her mlookhieh?

Hate my mlookhieh?I thought she just disliked my mlookhieh, preferred my mom's mlookhieh, my mlookhieh was not on her favorite food list, but hate my mlookhieh? I'm officially offended!

Mlookhieh:  a very popular stew (especially with kids) made from a herb called corchorus,cooked with chicken or meat, lemon ,garlic and other flavorings,often served with rice.

:: Good Morning, Mamdoo7!!

Mamdoo7, is Dr. Mamdoo7 el 3abbadi.

Ex Mayor of Amman, Ex minister of health, and current senate in the new parliament, but I am addressing him on a first name basis.

Why? one might wonder, and how come?

Plain and simple! Dr. 3abbadi and I have formed some sort of collegue friendship over the last six weeks,we have been seeing each other for at least five hours every day, six days a week.

For six weeks now, every morning, Dr. 3abbadi smiles at me from my office window.
When I come in to the office at 8.00 sharp, I feel he is nodding with approval.
He watches me as I sip on my coffee and scan my email.
He overlooks the work I am doing.
He does not frown when I minimize that Autocad screen and play a game of Scrabble.
He understands, its been sort of boring these few months at work.
He might as well tell me I should quit trying this Master Level in Scrabble, and stick to Elite. He has never seen me win one Master Level scrabble, but I feel he admires the effort.
I feel he sometimes wants to tell me to take a break from watching the screen, its bad for ones eyes and he is an ophthalmologist afterall!
Every time I watch the sun reflecting on my window, Dr. 3abbadi watches with me.
Every time I follow the clouds movements, Mamdoo7 follows them with me.
I am not sure I like this though, its like :Mamdoo7!! Give me some space..puleeeeez!
Dr. 3abbadi, don't you have another place to go to, like a storage room or something where you can stay there till the 2011 elections?

Don't get me wrong...Dr. Mamdoo7 el 3abbadi is a character I highly respect.All the reviews I hear about him from people who know or who have ever met him, say he's a very nice and decent gentleman, he has done a good job in all the posts he has held as far as I hear, but I think its about time he took away this 2*5m sign he has on the building right in front of me ( And its certainly not less than this, judging by the size of the windows and the height of the floors)..Not only him, all the other candidtaes too, the ones who won, the ones who lost..the ones with names the ones with pictures, the ones with mottos and the ones with logos....khalaaaas!! enough is enough..give us our clean and tidy city back!

And I thought if they did not remove them one week after the elections,the Municiplaity should have done it by now, so what happened to that?
