Reflections
AT ebb time I wrote a few lines upon the shore..and gave them all my heart and all my soul..at tide time I returned to read what I had inscribed and found my ignorance upon the shore.."jubran khalil"

:: If I were the king of Bahrain!

The King of Bahrain Park and Zoo, that has the potential to be a lovely educational and fun place for kids, because of the good collection of animals it houses, is in such a shameful state, where every empty piece of land is covered with trash and leftover boxes and rags.I can safely say that the animal cages are much cleaner than the toilets, at least animals tend to clean after themselves when they are done doing it! I sometimes wonder if the ministry of Health has ever sent anyone to check on this zoo...it is after all a public place, and doesn't the ministry supervise the cleanliness of publis places?

I can not imagine what would I have done if one of the kids insisted they needed to use the toilet while we were there, because passing by them , you can see the pathetic state they are in. I passed on the opportunity to see the inside, but took some pictures from outside the door (Oh, wait, there was no door), but here's the pictures:

The floors, are just horrific.

The above sign says: ( Please Check on the Cleanliness of the toilet before using it)!! cleanliness, what cleanliness??
It seems someone came and tiled on top of its last part ..I guess whenever the wall gets dirty, they just repaint it or tile it or something..but cleaning is no option.

And,WHY, do we feel inclined to turn every public place into a mini amusement  park of some sort? Iam sure if it wasn't Ramadan, the place would smell of Argeeleh and sound of George Wassouf.

What an eye soar!! Then again maybe I need a refresher course in art appreciation!

When I read the title and first sentence, I thought you were dissing Bahrain rather than the Zoo in Jordan named after the king !

I was so sad Reading through the very depressing lines in your post about the existing deplorable conditions in the zoo. This facility can be main tainted with very little money using basic cleaning chemicals, few labor hours, and conscientious supervision. I can't say what is wrong there because I didn't see it but given the opportunity even on volunteer basis I can turn things around within 24 to 48 hours. Open unobstructed areas like the zoo are the easiest places to not only easily clean but rather keeping them sparkling clean debris free all year around.

-Very true Hatem, what is needed costs so little comparatively, and so little time too..what a shame!

Salam, well said. What amazes me is that it is just across the street from the new Animal Welfare Society, which has a group of volunteers to care for the place and animals.

(the photos in the previous post were cute!)

Dear Salam,
this park looks exactly like the park close by my house, which your Father loved it. You remember how he used his camera and he was amazed how clean the place was,
he was amazed as the park had hot water and cold water, barbecue area that can be operated free of charge by gas/electricity and by wood fire all what was required from the public is keep it clean and not to litter. I believe you are exactly like him .He was so amazed about the toilets and he told everyone in Jordan about that and shared his exeprience with everyone, I believe not even the Ambassodor of Austra/ia in Jordan would ve been able to show Australia in the way that your dad did.
Yes you are exactly like your dad as he loved the world and cared about it, as if it was his own.
You are showing those rare qualities that not many of mankind has.
Writing about that, shows that you really care, but we as the public also has a responsbility to keep those public places clean as they are made for us.
It seems no Bahraini really cared about this place that is one of the reasons for the place not being clean.
Bahrain is a rich country and I for one cant see any reason why should the place be so dirty.
Look at Singapore, their toilets and parks so clean as they have someone there cleaning them.
good on you Salam and God bless you for your love for our world to be a better place, that is exactly the way your dad thought of the world he was so active in his work to make it better for all of us.
